Badge #2, Pt 2: Onyx Ward
Welcome to the Onyx ward -- the fourth ward you can access in Reborn City. Only three more to go. This ward is barren compared to the other wards and it's unlikely you'll visit here again except for the Move Relearner.
Before following either of the paths up, enter the first building -- the Onyx Arcade. You can talk to the various NPCs here to get some incredibly dated jokes, as well as them telling you the PvP services are down. (You can't use them anyway, due to the patch, but nevertheless). You also can't play any of the games as you don't have a coin case! But if you did, you could talk to the NPCs behind the counters to find that they're giving away a small handful of Pokémon (surely violating some sort of law). Once you get your coin case, you can just buy tokens to get the Pokémon, or try your luck at spinning the wheels.
Next to the arcade is a cut-out with a door to an apartment building. The girl on the left of the building will tell you to investigate the Day Care couple (it's the building next to the Pokécentre in Obsidia) as they're acting strange. If she's not there, you need to talk to the Daycare Couple at least once; if you do the daycare side-quest before talking to the girl, you need to talk to her twice for the reward.
Return through the gate and into Obsidia and make your way to the daycare. You need to alternate between talking to the old man and the old woman, where they reveal... they were Team Meteor all along!
After kicking their shins in, return back to Obsidia Park and enter the house at the top where you will find a Warehouse Key that has mysteriously appeared. (That's not obvious in the slightest, wtf?) This will open all of the locked warehouses (minus one) in the Coral Ward. In order, from right to left:
- The furthest right one will contain a Happiny.
- The middle one contains the Spoink that ran away from the exit room of the slums. It's hidden on the crate immediately to your left as you enter; interact with it to get the encounter.
- The left-most lower warehouse next to the decks will contain the real daycare couple!
- Finally, the top-most warehouse will contain... you can't open it. Oh well!
Before you return to the daycare to hatch your Slums egg that you put off hatching, return to the girl in the Onyx ward who will give you another mystery egg. This egg is completely random and can't be savescummed as its type is determined at the start of the game. It'll be one of these: Clamperl, Frillish, Spheal, Seel, Remoraid, or Clauncher. This event can be done at any point before you get your 13th Badge, but it disappears afterwards.
Onyx Trainer School
♫ GlitchxCity - Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Sky Tower Remix (vaporwave remix, lol)
When you're ready, head up to the Onyx Trainer School. The right entrance is blocked off by some students, so you'll need to enter through the Gym Entrance to the left. Oh no! You're blocked off by Incel Fern who - mad about not being asked to help with Obsidia - raises a gate preventing you from accessing the gym. Plan B: exit the Gym Entrance and go use Regular Entrance.
The way to the left is once again blocked off by a gate, so proceed to the right instead, then up the stairs to the second floor. There's several students who will change you in double battles along the way. Walk into the first room next to the stairs and talk to the guy inside to get his Coin Case, letting you go back and gamble at the arcade. The second door next to the old man is blocked off, and the third door contains a guy playing a video game (ft. terrible wordplay) and a set of Protective Pads on the ground. You'll see him again in a few chapters time.
Going left again, the next open door has three bedrooms with a Quick Claw. If you wish, interact with the bookcases to read four Bethesda-esque diary entries (how fucking old are these gym leaders, anyway?) Finally, talk to the person facing the wall who will scream, run away, and open up the set of double doors which leads to a room with a handful of move tutors. You can find out all the moves they teach here; ctrl+f for "Onyx".
As you go down the stairs to the next gate, there's a computer. Interact with it to unlock the gat- sorry, that doesn't work. But you will get a cutscene with a mysterious stranger who performs a small bit of AI reinforcement training and unlocks the gate for you. You can travel up and to the right to unlock the other gate next to the Pokémon Centre. Talk to the girl next to the gate as well to get two terrain seeds.
Now, the gym puzzle. Go straight left to clear out all of the trainers to avoid them getting in your way during this. Go left to right and interact with all of the computers, entering the following answers in this order:
- TRUE
- 20 (or 15, if you go by the books; either is accepted)
- 37 (see Cubchoo)
- TRUE
- 465 (see Corsola)
- TRUE
- 367
- 1 (see Starmie)
With the gym puzzle solved, you can go straight left across both rooms to talk to Fern, who will tell you to fuck off. Talk to him again for another battle.

After breaking his shins, you can proceed into the gym to battle Florinia. This is a relatively easy gym battle if you have the right team and likely the last easy one until the seventh badge or so. Some tips:
- A good fire type will completely dismantle her team, with the exception of Cradily which will kill you with Rock Tomb. (Now with a much less illegal moveset!)
- Technician Kricketune has one last hurrah in demolishing her team with Hyper Voice and Bug Buzz. Just keep wary of her Cradily.
- For dealing with the Cradily, a fighting type (such as the Pancham you found earlier) will handily beat it.
- Roselia or another Grass type is immune to Spore from her Breloom, and can easily OHKO it with a Poison move.
- Her Bramblin can hit very hard and is immune to Icy Wind, and with Shadow Sneak can get a priority kill out on you easily.

With that, you now have your second badge! Sheldon gives you the TM for Nature Power, then Amaria returns to let you know that the Team Meteor guy you've been tracking was seen in the Beryl Ward! That said, there's a few things we need to do here in the two wards before we trot over there. Your level cap is also increased to a whopping 35 -- just one level off being able to evolve your starter. Ah well.
There's one new event in the Onyx Ward; in the building with the girl who gave you the random egg, one of Fern's lackeys is now hanging out there and will open the door to the rooftop of the building.
Obsidia Ward, Again
Find this woman in Obsidia Ward and talk to her to trigger a battle with a group of bug Pokémon. After you defeat them, she will ask you to find three Pokémon with flowers on them to make a special item; there's lots of options already, but if you want an easy set you can literally catch three right here; Gossifleur, and Sunflora are both in the encounter tables for this area, and Oddish evolves into Gloom.
Once you've shown her all three species, she will give you the Rainbow Scent; this can be used to adjust the local encounter rate for wild Pokémon, either in quarter steps from 0% to 100%, or 10000% which forces an encounter every single tile. Alongside the Magnetic Lure you can get next chapter, this is a very useful item for shiny farming! She will also give you a baby Petilil; you can either evolve it now, or wait for Apophyll Island in a little while to evolve it to
Make your way back down to the Obsidia Slums to find a psykkkiatrist harassing a child to go to his orphanage. Interact with them to get the Itemfinder key item, as well as a medium EXP Candy. (Unless you used the early itemfinder password.)
If you go down the western lift to B1F, and around to this hidden doorway, you can enter the room to find a Makuhita.
Finally, if you go all the way to the top left of Upper Peridot, you can acquire the disobedient Pokémon you saw just outside of the Grand Hall at the very start of the game.
Next stop: The Jasper and Beryl wards!
